Welcome to "Lancaster County, A Bird's Eye View".
"Lancaster County, A Bird's Eye View" is a program on CD-ROM created by Gregory G. Young Photography. It is available for purchase directly from G. G. Young Photo. Photos on the CD can also be purchased individually. The images on the CD are full screen. (640x480). A grid can be placed over the picture and then you can zoom in on that section. After zooming in you can scroll from one photo to an adjacent photo by clicking near the edge of the screen. This gives the illusion of 'flying over' the area.
The Creation -
A Bird's Eye View is a collection of hundreds of aerial views of Lancaster County. All of the photos are at an angle, which means that the views are like what you would see if you were looking out of the window of a plane. This is different than the technique used for mapping where the photos are taken looking straight down. The angled method was used because it is much easier to understand what you looking at from an angle as opposed to straight down; however, with this method, distance between objects is not to scale.
All of the photos are in color and were taken using 35mm slide film or 4 x 5 transparencies. Photos were then scanned to a Photo CD or ProPhoto CD. Photos have been digitally enhanced to minimize haze and improve appearance.
Photos were taken from August 1997 to October 1997. The altitude varied from 1000 to 4000 feet except for the Lancaster photos and the Farmland photo, which were shot from about 11,000 feet.
